Home Care Prevention
Home care prevention constists of daily home care routines and
techniques of oral hygiene, which lay the groundwork for a healthy
smile.
| Brushing
: |
|
 |
There are various techniques for brushing your teeth, please ask
our dental hygienist which one to use. You should brush at least
twice a day, preferably after meals. Use a gentle touch while brushing
to avoid irritation of your gums. Use a soft bristled toothbrush
or, better still, use an electrical toothbrush. Our hygienist will
advise on type of brush that best suits your daily oral hygiene
technique.
Remember that healthy gums DO NOT BLEED while brushing
| Toothpaste
: |
|
 |
Toothpaste can be gel or paste, but it should contain fluoride.
| Mouthwash
: |
|
 |
Research has shown that the most effective and safe mouthwash is an
alcohol-free product. Our hygienist will be pleased to advise and
instruct you on the best products available.
| Flossing: |
|
 |
One of the most important weapons in the fight against gum disease
and bad breath is flossing. Daily flossing helps to remove plaque,
bacteria and food debris from between your teeth and areas inaccessible
to a toothbrush. You can ask our hygienist’s advice on the
proper way of flossing.
You miss nearly 40% of your tooth surfaces when you brush without
flossing!! Imagine washing only 60% of your body, while missing
the other 40% day after day. Sooner or later, people will notice.
REMEMBER: dentists tell you to floss, but they make
a lot more money when you don’t.
If gum bleeding persists after one week of flossing, please contact
your hygienist or dentist, as this may be an indication of gum disease.
| Tongue
Scraper : |
|
 |
Tongue scrapers are used to scrape the surface of the tongue to
remove bacteria that stick to the hair-like substance on the tongue
surface. Regular tongue scraping usually has a large effect on improving
cases of bad breath associated with smoking.
Using your toothbrush to clean your tongue IS NOT EFFECTIVE.
Toothbrushes are not designed to clean the tongue.
