Professional Prevention
Professional prevention is any prevention procedure that needs
to be performed by your dentist or the professional dental hygienist.
It goes hand in hand with Home
Care Prevention to maintain a healthy beautiful smile. Effective
prevention can help you avoid costly treatments in the future to
remove decay, restore teeth and treat gum disease.
Professional cleaning, also known as prophylaxis, is done by the
hygienist at least once every 3 to 6 months or as requested by your
hygienist depending or the health status of your gums and teeth.
It forms the foundation for preventing gum disease and tooth decay
by removing any plaque or tartar that sticks on your teeth and cannot
be removed by regular brushing and flossing. Remember that healthy gums DO NOT BLEED
Remember that preventing disease is always better and cheaper than
treating it.
Dental
Examination :
A dental examination is performed routinely by your dentist to identify
how healthy your teeth and gums are. Even when your teeth aren’t
bothering you, a dental examination is IMPORTANT
to detect any problem in your teeth or gum before they become hazardous
to your health and expensive to repair, or in some cases, impossible
to repair.
Dental
X-Rays :
Dental problems often go undetected because they remain hidden within
the teeth and bones of the mouth. X-rays identify these unseen developments.
In addition to visually identifying cavities, X-rays can detect trauma
to the teeth and bones, show impacted teeth, and illuminate signs
of periodontal or bone disease. X-rays are an inexpensive and relatively
harmless way to detect dental problems before they result in serious
and potentially costly problems down the road.
We
use state-of-the-art low radiation digital x-rays, which emit up to
90% less radiation than regular x-rays.
Fluoride
Application :
Fluoride is a mineral that helps to strengthen teeth by reducing dental
decay, decreasing the attacks of acids on the teeth and repairing
weak spots in teeth that could become cavities. In-office fluoride
application is performed by the dental hygienist either in the form
of gel painted on the teeth or a fluoride rinse after dental cleaning.
You should always seek advice from our dental hygienist
regarding fluoride, as excessive intake of fluoride can cause mottled,
discolored teeth and pitting of the enamel.
